About This Episode

I've been to a lot of affiliate conferences in the last 15+ years and not all the speakers and panels are great. Some are terrible and a complete waste of time but we always hope for the best.

I remember when content got so bad that I stopped going to the panels and speaker keynotes. The networking was good enough but I felt that in iGaming and affiliate marketing that things could be another level up.

So what conferences are worth attending that you get great value from the content? Is it Affiliate World, Affiliate Summit, iGB Affiliate events, NEXT.io events, SiGMA World, Affpapa, SEO IRL in Toronto, CM SEO, SEO Estonia, SEO Mastery Summit, SEO Spring Training?

Let me know what you think are the best events for content and why?

[00:00:01] John Wright: Welcome to the affiliate BI podcast. Today I wanna talk about what makes a good conference, especially when it comes to the content side of things. I mean, networking, you hope that there's always gonna be great networking and you can take advantage of that. But I wanna focus just on some of the events I've been to in the last 10, 15, 20 years where in iGaming at least, I can say that everything is pretty inconsistent. Sometimes you get really amazing panelists with great guests. Sometimes you get really solid keynotes that just basically wow you and think, okay, I'm learning something here that I really need to take seriously. And then there's other times where I just feel like

[00:00:41] John Wright: I'm listening to an advertorial and that's never good. I think advertorials, I mean, we get why they exist because I mean, yeah, if conferences sell these spots, I mean, you kind of can't blame them for needing to make as much money as they can because I mean, that's a pretty cutthroat business. But I do think for the people that are at least going to do anything semi-avatorial ish, they should at least go out of the way to be like, how can I make this entertaining or give value? I think by giving value, I think it's implied that you're giving yourself your own really good branding and you're gonna make your own sales in indirect ways.

[00:01:19] John Wright: So with that said, I went to Facebook and I said, hey gang, what makes a great conference? What are ones that you've been to that have just blown you away and you said, you know what,

[00:01:30] John Wright: this is the bar set. And some of the answers I'm getting are SEO Estonia,

[00:01:36] John Wright: definitely Chiang Mai SEO, CMSEO is common. I mean, I hear lots of amazing things from that event and I think that's personally from what I've heard is I'd call that like cult like status for a conference.

[00:01:49] John Wright: I've personally enjoyed going to SEO IRL in Toronto by Steve Toff. I felt that was a pretty solid show and I think the one he's doing this year is gonna be next level and I'm pretty sure he's gonna take it one more level up. So yeah, it just makes me wonder like what would you say makes for a great show? I know what I want, I wanna be walking away feeling like, you know what, I feel like because I was there, I have a leg up on my competition that it's an unfair advantage that by my competition not attending, they don't have what I now have. So why say this is because we have a potential partnership

[00:02:27] John Wright: coming up with a pretty major event organizer and yeah, I'm just kind of going, let me do my research and go, what can I do if I'm going to have this opportunity to curate the content? I wanna make sure that this kind of just goes right out of the park where people walk away going, that was amazing, they talk about it, they write about it, you name it. So if you've got ideas or contributions, send me a DM on LinkedIn or message me however you've got my contact on any social channel. Be happy to chat with you and just yeah, give me a shout out to what are the best events you've attended, why were they the best aside from the networking component? And from a content point of view,

[00:03:07] John Wright: what do you expect to see? What would you want in an affiliate marketing conference?
