Best SEO Tips for Affiliates from a Year of Revenue Optimization

If you run comparison pages, casino reviews, or any content site that lives and dies on organic, the last year of SEO talk on Revenue Optimization has been pretty clear. Lazy playbooks are getting punished. AI made production cheap and differentiation expensive. And affiliates who only chase Domain Rating are missing half the game.

I pulled the sharpest affiliate-usable SEO tips from recent episodes. Eight guests, citations back to the show, and YouTube embeds where we have them. Steal what fits your stack. Ignore the rest.

1. Lazy SEO is dead. Brand search is the receipt. (Kasra Dash)

Episode · Guest

Kasra’s line is the one I keep repeating to affiliates who still think “upload 500 articles, collect topical authority, rank casino phrases” is a strategy:

When people say SEO is dead, I would say that lazy SEO is dead.

Look, if the only people searching your brand are you and your team, Google has a thin reason to trust you over a real brand. Invest in demand that creates branded queries (newsletters, tools, communities, YouTube), not just more programmatic pages.

2. Too many affiliates start with money, not what they’re building. (Emilio Takas)

Episode · Guest (Gentoo Media)

Emilio has seen this from the big-publisher side. The miss isn’t “not enough keywords.” It’s starting with revenue targets before you know what asset you’re building.

Too many affiliates start with money instead of asking, “What am I building?”

Pick a durable angle. Player safety, payment methods, local regulation, product comparisons you can update weekly. Sites that already behaved like helpful content before the updates had less panic when Google moved.

3. AI content isn’t the cheat code. Knowing the output is. (Kyle Roof)

Episode · Guest

Kyle and I dug into what actually ranks when everyone can generate a “complete guide” in four minutes. Wait a minute: if you don’t know what good looks like in your niche, you can’t edit the model. And you can’t defend the page after an update.

  • Use AI to accelerate drafts and research, not to publish unreviewed money pages.
  • Keep human proof on commercial URLs: original screenshots, tested bonus terms, real withdrawal timelines, your own data tables.
  • Don’t put your name on thin stuff you wouldn’t defend on a sales call.

No YouTube on file for this one yet. Listen on the episode page.

4. Semantic SEO still matters, especially when affiliates cover brands. (Koray Tugberk Gübür)

Episode · Guest

Koray’s reminder for iGaming affiliates: how you cover (or remove) brands isn’t neutral. Search systems care about entities and relationships, not just string-matched keywords.

  • Build topical maps around entities players care about (operators, payment rails, game types, jurisdictions).
  • Treat brand relationships carefully on review pages.
  • Thin content can still rank in some patterns. That still isn’t a portfolio plan.

5. Optimize for AI search (GEO). Brand mentions beat “links or nothing.” (Steve Toth)

Episode · Guest

Steve’s GEO angle is what affiliates feel when ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Claude recommend casinos and tools without a classic blue-link click.

Brand mentions are becoming even more important. The links don’t always need to be there.

Be a citable source. Publish original stats, clear authorship, and quotable definitions. Mentions across podcasts, newsletters, and partner sites are part of the game now.

6. Stop worshipping Domain Rating. Use smarter signals. (Shaurya Jain)

Episode · Guest · Honest HVAC Marketing

Shaurya’s episode is a useful slap for anyone buying sites or links off a single Ahrefs number. DR is a vendor metric. Google’s trust model is not Ahrefs.

  • When buying or judging a domain, look at traffic quality, brand search, content investment, and real backlink patterns, not DR alone.
  • For link building, prefer relevance and trust over spraying high-DR links that don’t move conversions.
  • Treat third-party scores as directional, then validate with GSC and revenue.

7. Affiliate SEO in practice: data, brand, and doing the work. (Martin Calvert)

Episode · Guest

Martin’s framing matches what I see with StatsDrone customers too. The affiliates who compound aren’t the ones with the cleverest trick that week. They’re the ones with data loops and brand residue from showing up for years.

  • Instrument content to clicks to FTDs (or leads) so SEO decisions aren’t vibes.
  • Consistent real publishing can accidentally build GEO presence, if the content is citable.
  • Doing the work still beats waiting for the next loophole thread.

8. SEO alone isn’t the moat. Orchestration and first-party are. (Zak Ali)

Episode · Guest (Finder)

Zak’s push from pure SEO toward orchestration is the strategic layer under all of this. Affiliates who only own rankings don’t own the customer.

  • Own audiences (email, app, community) so an algorithm Tuesday doesn’t zero the business.
  • Use paid and social to seed branded demand. Measure it honestly in GSC.
  • Think moat: data, distribution, and trust. SEO is one channel inside that system.

Quick checklist for affiliate SEO teams

  1. Kill lazy volume. Fewer better pages beat hundreds of near-duplicates (Kasra, Emilio).
  2. Edit every AI draft with niche proof you uniquely have (Kyle).
  3. Map entities, not just keywords (Koray).
  4. Earn citations and brand mentions for AI answer engines (Steve).
  5. Judge sites and links beyond DR (Shaurya).
  6. Close the loop from rankings to revenue data (Martin).
  7. Build first-party distribution so SEO isn’t the only door (Zak).
