Welcome to the AffiliateBI podcast. Today I want to talk about a book called The Payout Mafia. It's by uh Neil Z and James Douly. And yeah, this is an amazing book on affiliate marketing. So, I had someone ask me recently uh saying, "Hey, I want to get started in affiliate marketing. What should I do?" And since I started reading this book, I mean, I just didn't hesitate.
I just said go get this book and read it because there's a lot of core principles on here that I think everyone just overlooks in affiliate marketing. Um so just to give you a couple examples, a lot of people think that affiliate marketing is pure passive. Um it might have been passive back in the day and there's aspects of it that are technically passive. Um like you know if you get uh some recurring revenue that's great.
If you're able to create some evergreen content like a YouTube video that just sits there and is evergreen, collects traffic year after year, that's great. Those are examples of of how it can be passive, but you kind of need to keep the whole funnel going or the whole system going rather. You need to be constantly creating content because you never know when that video is going to start losing out to someone else that's going to actually build a create a better video and just kind of
outrank you. So, there's just like a lot of really good principles and best practices. Like it talks about um like you have different chapters from a lot of different affiliate marketing experts and it just talks about how you can kind of like focus on a niche that's going to be relevant for you. Um a core theme throughout this entire book is conversion rate optimization. Um, that's something I'm really passionate about because I think a lot of people think that they need to double their search traffic
or double their traffic rather than trying to double their conversion rates where it goes without saying. Um, technically those look like the same, but sometimes you can get um, you know, faster wins just getting more conversions than you can uh by just trying to increase your traffic by 25 50% 100%. Um, so these are things that kind of matter. And what kind of people do we have in here for this uh book?
Uh, there's Matt Diggity. Um, we have, uh, James Oliver. Uh, Jamie if uh, he's definitely in there. Uh, Gregory Elfrank from, um, Empire Flippers. This guy has a lot of insight on the world of M&A when it comes to, um, you know, buying and selling of affiliate sites. Uh, James Douly, no doubt. Um, Jenna Gonzalez was in there and I liked her section because she talked about the importance of tracking and how tracking is where a lot of people just lose visibility of their entire um,
like websites. It's kind of like you just take tracking for granted, but tracking can be where things fall apart. And you know, I think um, that's a big source of revenue leak. Like you've got tracking that stops working, it's pretty easy to not notice that these things are happening. So, it's yeah, it's kind of important to stay on top of it. So, once again, I highly recommend this book.
I mean, anyone who's new to affiliate marketing, even if you've been around for affiliate marketing for a long time, this book is pure gold. It's just got, you know, a lot of the best tips uh from some top affiliate marketers around the world about, you know, what's made them successful. And I like the question. It's like, if you had to start all over, um what would you do to get to like 10K a month?
Um, and yeah, the answers they're pretty they're they're varied, but they're also spot-on. Um, it just talks about how people would go, "Let me take what I am capable of doing and let me get the wins." Uh, another theme that I think is kind of recurring in this book is the idea that people say like, you know, be helpful people and um kind of create your own media presence, your own media moat.
Um, I think it's uh helpful to kind of build your own media profile where you can own more of your traffic and you have followers and you have you you're basically building trust. So, you know, I think it's um, you know, for some people that looks like a podcast. For other people that's creating videos and for other people it's you know, putting their name uh on everything and just going all in on a single topic.
So yeah, just shout out to Niles and uh James for uh putting together an amazing book on affiliate marketing. It's probably the only book I could actually recommend in affiliate marketing. It's just that good. So um enjoy the book and uh yeah, it's if you got more questions, fire them. Uh send them to me through LinkedIn. I'd be happy to uh do some um some more podcasts where I can kind of uh dive deep into some of the things that I could help with.
